Martin and Betty McKelvey Kalish[1]. In 1972, he was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his illustration for Snyder's The Headless Cupid.

Quotes[]

"When I entered art college at the age of twenty-five I'd never heard of Picasso, Cezanne, or Renoir, and knew nothing about art history. However, I already had skills, so I could put a lot of energy into catching up on the history and aesthetics of art. As a result of this background, I often tell my students that a cultured family is not a prerequisite to being an artist - it only means one may have to work harder."[1]
